Madewell is made well!

April 26th, 2012

Yep, this was taken on Easter Sunday and, yep, you guessed it, I am running behind on my post. How did you know?! Let me guess! Because I have been saying that for a while now. Maybe one day I will catch up and actually be on time even though I am known to run late on almost every occasion (unless you are a future employer…I am always punctual because I take work very seriously and I enjoy being there!) Until, or should I say if, that day comes I will just act like I am on point and just not say I am late hoping that if I don’t mention my tardiness it won’t be noticed.

On to more fashionable subjects…this top has been a favorite of mine since I purchased it a few weeks back. It has been worn way more than it should be (thats a perk of living in a big city…so many ppl that you rarely see someone you know unless you make plans to so you can wear the same outfit day after day with no crazy stares.) These photos don’t do the top justice. The color is much more vibrant in person and the feel is just lovely…lightweight yet heavy enough to feel expensive. Ha! I sound like a crazy fashion girl who is obsessed with fabric…

Anyways, I like this outfit…mixed prints, comfortable, from one of my favorite shops that I wish my wardrobe was full of, and holiday appropriate (colorful and semi-dressy aka the skirt.)

Well, I am off to do a few errands and get ready for a little toms/urban event tonight!

10 things that make my heart happy

April 24th, 2012

1. This beauty happens when talented photographers and illustrators collaborate.
2. I love the tribal aesthetic this White Bison iPhone Case has while keeping within the softer color family.
3. This place seriously exists…heaven on earth.
4. The watercolor Cloudscape iPhone Case is hard to pass up.
5. Wishing I was as good as Katie Rodgers with illustrations and watercolors.
6. These Chloe Black Mina Wedges would be great for walking the NYC streets (if the price was more affordable.) The black and brown combo has been a favorite of mine for a while.
7. La Case de cousin Paul light kit aka awesome lamp
8. This green trench cape is perfect for cool NYC days like today and it’s handmade!
9. Wish I had my hand dyeing kit so I could attempt to make something similar since these lovelies are sold out.
10. Katelyn Mooney’s kid shots are breathtaking and inspiring. How did these children get so good at posing? Makes me want to throw on tons of shiny layers, feather headdresses, animal masks, and paint my face with crazy makeup. Although I would like to do all of these things at once, to avoid many crazy stares on the subway, I shall advert to one at a time (which should get me a few less stares, but only a few less.)

Dreaming of fun girl time at our dessert get together tonight,

Twila

Here are a few more instagram snapshots from my first few weeks in NYC. Because of my busyness, these posts are waaaaay behind. I have plenty more coming.

I was still sketching at that point and eating great breakfasts. This past week I had barely any time to take my vitamins…breakfast and coffee were snatched up on the way to work.

MadMen nights are still in the mix at the Brooklyn Winery, where we eat great eats with other MadMen enthusiasts….some dress up in the vintage decor to show their hardcore fandom. The first of our MadMen Sunday nights we stopped by an adorable hoppin pizza shop, Paulie Gee’s, with the most adorable owner sporting thick round black glasses (I swear his glasses are thicker and darker in person.) A returning visit is due very soon.

Green juice and yoga haven’t remained in the busy schedule cycle which is missed somewhat (since sometimes I feel like death when squatted in the chair pose.) But donuts very much have. I have had many different kinds (blood orange glazed, mixed berry glazed, refried plain, glazed holes, gluten free chocolate glazed) from many different locations (Smorgasburg (which is Heaven and needs a post of its own), truck vendors, Dunkin Donuts, Dun Well Donuts). Needless to say, I am addicted and need a gym membership pronto to balance my new round sweet obsession.

The last photo is of me and a sweet friend at our welcoming party that my other sweet friend threw to initiate us into the “concrete jungle where dreams are made of” that we now call home (Yes, I did just quote Alicia.)

Yes, you guessed it….dreaming of a glazed donut or a dozen glazed donut holes,

DIY: Rodarte Inspired Celestial Hair Clip

April 18th, 2012

Hey! Hey! Hey! Of course, I have been crazy busy. Started my new job on the mark of my first month being here (yesterday) so that explains a bit of my absence. Tons of things have been happening which I will share later this week bc I am headed off to work with little time to chat. It has been loads of fun exploring this new to me city and now finally getting to work in it! I am starting to feel more like a New Yorker! The Rodarte Inspired DIY below was actually made a few months back but received a little damage during the move. So after searching this town for craft glue (which took many days due to craft stores being not easily accessible around here), this lovely piece was repaired and finally enjoyed.

Hope your day is lovely! Off to my commute!

Dreaming of comfortable shoes,

Allstar Softball

April 6th, 2012

The weather is much warmer today which I have only heard but not felt for my own bc I have not ventured out yet. Instead, I sit on my new Ikea bed (just mattress) scouring blogs and job sites while crunching on Greek yogurt and granola still cozy in my pjs. I don’t think it has hit me quite yet that I live in NYC. It feels much like I have been on vacation for the last two weeks probably bc I don’t have a strict working routine. (Someone please bless me with a strict working routine!) It’s a good time to get little things done that I have been wanting to….craft to dos and sewing lists checked off.

I may venture out for a coffee and a bike wheel.
