10 things valentines

February 12th, 2013

10thingsFeb2013

1. Remember not to count on other ppl for your happiness especially this Valentine’s Day. I have always loved this holiday even when I was single. It isn’t just a day for couples. It’s a holiday to celebrate love and that can be with your family and other single friends as well and even with your friends who are in relationships. A girls only valentines date is sometimes the best. That’s how I will be celebrating this year since my fine guy is many hours away. This is a great quote. You make the decision to be happy. Don’t put that on other ppl.

2. Pull out those heart sunglasses you purchased a few summers ago and sport them in support of the day that celebrates love. If you hurry you can rush order a dozen here for your girls group to share the love.

3. I had some of these Jam Filled Heart Cookies for Thanksgiving (which were gluten free) and they were pretty good but I have not attempted to make them yet. Here is a recipe if you would like to whip some up for Thursday.

4. It’s little things that change when you move to a new place…little things that wasn’t a big deal in your city before. For instance, umbrellas!! They are a big deal here. If you dont have one you will for sure get soaked and if you dont have a sturdy one not only will you look like a wet puppy when you get to work but you may also have to explain where you got that scratch on your forehead (which would be from one of the wires on your flimsy umbrella that blew up in the storm). Anyways, since you need an umbrella you should look into one that spreads cheer like this lovely red heart. It’s all about the love..and this one has frills too if you’re into that. I also didn’t know of the importance of an umbrella on a snowy day until I moved. Traveling enlightens us!

5. This card is super cute with the lyrics of one of my morning songs. If you don’t have enough time to rush ship this guy and ther person you are planning to give it to isn’t much up for late present exchange, think of making a card with some of your favorite song lyrics or better yet some of the gift receivers favorite lyrics.

6. I may be visiting Anthropologie after work for these gems. Bring shiny earrings have a hold on me!

7. You need these for your girls night. They should be at your local party store also.

8. Try this vegan recipe or just a regular sugar cookie recipe if you haven’t watched food docs that have made you meatless and dairyless. Then while your picking up those pretty straws at the party store grab a few cookie cutters and make a festive bag for your girls night!! Or you can try this chocolate peanut butter recipe.

9. For all you married folk…

10. I’m not sure how I feel about these. I think I would sport them a few times bf I rule that they are utterly ridiculous but it would be fun until then!

Hope your Valentines Day is lovely no matter how you celebrate it… with your husband, single friends, brother, or parents! Share the love and sport some hearts!

Dreaming of a vegan red velvet heart pancake,

10 things that make my heart happy (christmas edition)

December 16th, 2012

Once again I am just in awe of how fast these days just glide on by. It is saddening. I want to feel prepared for the holidays and feel that I actually experienced them fully. One day I will get the hang of it..one day I will!

1. Living in New York with three flights of narrow stairs to pass through makes the Christmas tree tradition a bit harder to take part in. So those of us who can not fully celebrate by decorating a pine, this website  will make you think you did by providing you with the wonderful smells of the holidays.
2. So now that the holiday smell is covered by thymes we can decorate our small spaces with bits of the tree along with other holiday prints and tapes. DIY here.
3.  Yep, I still have an obsession with sequin pants and grey sweats.. so why not add them together shown?! Shown so well by ManRepeller.
4. I will start baking holiday treats like these!
5. Advent calendars seem to make the holidays go by slower. A wooden one similar to the one pictured above or this would be great.
6. This season I have been big into DIYs as gifts and as gift wrapping. These animal magnets make great gift gift toppers (gifts that are gifts on their own but also top (as in they are part of the wrapping) the gift your giving.)
7. These hand stamped napkins would also make a great personalized gift and seem fun to make. I may make some for my home!
8. More making and more stamping.  Directions here. The gals back home and I plan on doing a bit of this when I arrive on Thursday!
9. You can not tell me that this drink looks delightful. It’s like you are drinking up the holidays! If you are into tasty treats as gifts take a look at this homemade holiday drink.
10. To reside in an area near to this site… uh-mazing.

Off to snack on french toast and maple syrup.
Dreaming of a slow and appreciated season,
Twila

10 things that make my heart happy

October 27th, 2012

I’m recuperating from a long unsuccessful night of waiting for Saturday Night Live standby tickets. After entertaining ourselves with two concerts (Those Darlins and another show at this super cool venue) and a diner meal we make our way to Rockefeller Center at approx. 4:00am to discover that there was not a show taping today and we would be not be able to stay up three more hours in line waiting to obtain tickets to maybe see the “weekend update” and political propaganda jokes that SNL has to offer. We searched around the building a few times just to make sure the guy that told us of the non taping weekend was not fibbing to maybe lure us away from the standby line to obtain the number one spot. But since there were no other people waiting we decided to train and cab it back home. Once home the cup of coffee I drank two hours before would not let me properly sleep leaving me currently in a zombie like state which is fitting for the season (paha). Anyways, pretty photos and wish lists are keeping my tired mind entertained at the moment and this is what I came up with!

1. I can not get enough of cozy sweaters, cool temperatures and heck throw in a crazy amazing view of changing leaves and mountain tops and I am all set! Who wouldn’t be?!
2. I have yet to master this beautifully naturally messy crown braid. Please show me how someone! Or better yet please show me how to thicken my hair to make it look this full in a braid.
3. These cozy blankets scream autumn and winter (which I am totally frightened of by being up north for my first winter. I have no snow boots or a proper puffer.)
4. As we are talking about snow boots…need these!
5. A pretty little mask for Halloween festivities. I have yet to decide what I want to dress like this year but I did just finish helping my roomie with the best “Moonlight Kingdom” inspired costume ever.
6. Loving this laid back look in overalls.
7. Continuing on with my love of big stoned earrings.
8. How can anyone say no to this?! Pumpkin pancakes make the best autumn breakfast.
9. Cute animal sweater please!? (Click this link for my birthday present)
10. Could I be anymore obvious?!

Dreaming of a successful spontaneous New York adventure,

Twila
