Package Exchange

October 12th, 2011

While I was out west, a few friends of mine and I decided to start a package exchange, which ended up being a grand idea! One was located in the south and one northeast so we were able to exchange little treasures from different parts of the US. It was so exciting to receive a package full of little items that you normally wouldn’t purchase for yourself.

Vintage dresses, vintage Missoni-like sheets, vintage Lennon sunshades, adorable beetle, seashell and giraffe charms, and a handmade braided hair band traveled from NYC to make me a happier gal.

From NOLA, I received vintage shimmering striped pants, my beloved Macarons baking book, artsy magnets, floral coffee mug and a handmade origami swan.

From LA, they received lace shorts, vintage and handmade necklaces from Melrose Trading Post, vintage snake belt, handmade bracelets by moi, and an inspirational read.

Sending out the next package today!

If you have a few friends around the US, you should start your own package exchange. Just set a spending limit and start picking out adorable little items to send. You can start at Lafayette Arts & Fleas if you live in the Lafayette area.

Dreaming of unexplainable peace and joy,

Twila

“by Twila” Skirt

July 8th, 2011

Finally back in L.A. after a long weekend back home which I thoroughly enjoyed. Being away makes you appreciate your hometown so much more. My flight got cancelled due to a plane not arriving at all so I was able to spend another day in the hot south and acquired a $400 flight voucher!!

When I arrived in the much cooler, as in not so hot, California state, I was scooped up and headed straight to work where we picked up tons of dresses, tops, bottoms and jewelry for two fittings the following day.

Now I am off to return the tons of clothing and preparing for a job interview. Hope your day is lovely!

“by Twila” Shoot

July 5th, 2011

I am really excited about these photos! Before I left for the The Golden State, we were able to sneak in a mini shoot of my personal designs and I love love love the result. Cory Fontenot, the guy behind the camera at Sharper Photography, was exciting to work with. His creative eye made the shoot more enjoyable than a fashion shoot already is…which is very enjoyable.

This shoot was inspired by the playful, summer personality of my collection. I am usually not one to design with darker jewel tones and stand out prints, but when I saw these fabrics I could not pass them up. I was instantly reminded of younger years of playing with play-dough and taking turns portraying cowboys and indians. I threw in a few lighter hues to satisfy my natural more subtle taste.

Kristi Drake decided  soft waves and side braids would accentuate the feather head dress and striped turban best. Kristi’s on point hairstyles and laid back personality make her a dream to work with.
P.S. Kristi, I need a bang trim.

And how gorgeous are Claire and Alex?! Alex’s dance background certainly showed in her photos. For each shot she was in a totally different position that looked stunning. Watching her made me want to enroll in my second dance class…I wasn’t too good in the first one. Clair just had to stand there to let the camera capture her beauty. They are both truly beautiful!

Let me know your thought!

Dreaming of my pillow and blanket,

Twila

Hello! Long time no see. Im preparing for the 2nd Lafayette Arts & Fleas at Artwalk this Saturday and a shoot on Sunday. So I have been sewing and crafting all week. I might take a break to watch a few local short films at the Acadiana Center for the Arts tonight.

Trying milkmaid braids has been on my to do list for a while but I am not too fond of how the back usually looks, so decided to do a different version with a messy bun in the back. I braided in a scarf a few days ago and may do a little tutorial soon.
