Grillin-n-Chillin

June 12th, 2012

I finally made it back home expecting unbearably hot humid Louisiana weather but was welcomed by semi warm weather with sporadic rain. Between the rain drops we managed to relax in the back yard listening to bird and insect chirps chiming in with the sizzling of the grill. The time was much needed after the stress caused by a not so great airline misplacing by baggage leaving me with only my plane outfit and many unhelpful customer service calls.

Sides have always been my favorite part of a meal which usually consists of tons of fatty carbs…mac-n-cheese, baked beans, mashed potatoes… but we decided to stay on the low carb end by switching in a fresh cucumber and tomato salad with raspberry vinaigrette along with a fresh fruit salad.

More customer service calls are on the agenda for today. Hoping something can be resolved.

Change of the Day

May 10th, 2012

Ugh! I lost (or was accidentally taken at the crazy amazing Rebecca Minkoff Sample Sale) my phone yesterday and I feel lost…completely lost. I have no idea if I can survive in this city without a phone….sounds a little dramatic but I honestly am not sure if I can get to work today without it…no maps, no Instagram, no blog rolls to keep me entertained, no music on the train. Ugh! What did we do before these smart phones?! Below are snipets of a happier day, which was actually taken with my missing phone! The wonders that phones can do these days… it is difficult to live without them.

This gorgeous and inspiring wall is on the way to my favorite Brooklyn Saturday past time, Smorgasburg, the best food market around which you should already know plenty about if you follow my Instagram or this blog. Last Saturday, as I was walking back from my favorite past time with a full belly of amazingly tasty food, I noticed this wall had changed a bit. It was now tagged with black mumbo jumbo writing which I could not decode. I am not one that is against graffiti but if you are going to share your “artwork” then at least make it look nice and do it in a location that needs a bit of sprucing up…not on a beautiful wall with an eye catching color, exposed brick and naturally growing vines…sadness. So farewell to a beautiful Brooklyn wall.

The wall also had a message to tell me. “Forgive!” This is sometimes a hard word to master. You want to think you are great at forgiving and you don’t hold grudges but sometimes it is very hard to put the past behind you and move forward by truly forgiving. And by true forgiveness, I mean not saying you forgive then bringing up the situation the next time you are reminded of it. I mean forgiving by not mentioning it ever again and act like it didn’t even happen. If we want to be forgiven of the things we do, we need to learn how to forgive thoroughly also. And yes, I am preaching to myself. I’m still working on this little life lesson ha. Some things just take longer than others to truly grasp. Life is honestly too short to hold onto things. Let go and feel free again, and then eat a blood orange glazed donut…so good!

skirt: ahhh, I can’t think of the place right now but when I do Ill let you know. It is really inexpensive and has tons of dressy basics. Definitely, worth the trip there.

Off to mapquest my work route.

Dreaming of an omelet with a coffee to go,

Madewell is made well!

April 26th, 2012

Yep, this was taken on Easter Sunday and, yep, you guessed it, I am running behind on my post. How did you know?! Let me guess! Because I have been saying that for a while now. Maybe one day I will catch up and actually be on time even though I am known to run late on almost every occasion (unless you are a future employer…I am always punctual because I take work very seriously and I enjoy being there!) Until, or should I say if, that day comes I will just act like I am on point and just not say I am late hoping that if I don’t mention my tardiness it won’t be noticed.

On to more fashionable subjects…this top has been a favorite of mine since I purchased it a few weeks back. It has been worn way more than it should be (thats a perk of living in a big city…so many ppl that you rarely see someone you know unless you make plans to so you can wear the same outfit day after day with no crazy stares.) These photos don’t do the top justice. The color is much more vibrant in person and the feel is just lovely…lightweight yet heavy enough to feel expensive. Ha! I sound like a crazy fashion girl who is obsessed with fabric…

Anyways, I like this outfit…mixed prints, comfortable, from one of my favorite shops that I wish my wardrobe was full of, and holiday appropriate (colorful and semi-dressy aka the skirt.)

Well, I am off to do a few errands and get ready for a little toms/urban event tonight!

The weather is much warmer today which I have only heard but not felt for my own bc I have not ventured out yet. Instead, I sit on my new Ikea bed (just mattress) scouring blogs and job sites while crunching on Greek yogurt and granola still cozy in my pjs. I don’t think it has hit me quite yet that I live in NYC. It feels much like I have been on vacation for the last two weeks probably bc I don’t have a strict working routine. (Someone please bless me with a strict working routine!) It’s a good time to get little things done that I have been wanting to….craft to dos and sewing lists checked off.

I may venture out for a coffee and a bike wheel.

Packing, packing and more packing is all I have been doing lately and boy is it tiring. Along with all this packing comes the daunting task of sorting and getting rid of things. This is liberating at times but it is usually quite stressful because of my problem of not wanting to let go. The item of clothing could have sat in my closet for up to five years but I still find it hard to throw into the giveaway pile. Maybe it’s because the day I drop it off at the Goodwill I will want to restyle it into my way stuffed wardrobe or may want to use it as a DIY, which has happened often lately. Maybe it’s because I think of the memories I have had in those clothes…where I wore it and who I was with. Ahhh! I may have hoarder tendencies! I will not be a hoarder! I will not be a hoarder! I am overcoming it right now…
