Nashville

May 4th, 2013

It has been over a month since I visited my future home which I had a mix of emotions. This year is full of mixed emotions…so so full of excitement about my wedding and future marriage and future home, a bit of anxiety about wedding details (who doesn’t when planning a wedding) and finding a new job and new place in my future city, and a bit of sadness to leave this huge wonderful city that I am now just feeling is home. It will be sad to leave New York. This past year has truly been a great life adventure…ups and downs and growing and changing in so many ways. I feel like moving to new places and visiting new places for an extended amount of time does that to its new inhabitants which is always a great thing. Although it will be sad to close the chapter to this city for now I truly can’t wait to start my new one in Nashville.

Nashville is growing and the place to be right now according to the New York Times. Supposedly GQ is calling it “Nowville.” So more adventurous times ahead indeed!

Downtown area likes to honky tonk.

We took a little tourist visit to the Country Music Hall of Fame.

And a little stop by Jack White’s studio.

East Nashville is full of great hip restaurants. Visit here (and get one of the couscous bowls) and here (the quinoa bowl and the beans and greens were very good) if u get a chance.

Imogene + Willie was definitely one of my favorite shop spots with custom fit jeans and a design studio in full view. The hanging pattern drafts made this little designer’s heart skip a beat! The prices are a little high but definitely worth it when considering the quality.

Ummm…and this place. We had it probably over 5 times counting a pint we brought home to snack on while movie viewing.

and finally back to my current home. How can you not love this city?! (You definitely can hate it at times. It took me almost a year to finally love it.)

Dreaming of crazy adventurous months ahead,

around here

February 12th, 2013

Hey Yo! Hope all is well in your world. It’s been relaxing, busy, adventurous, crafty, chilly and cozy rolled in one snowball these past few weeks. My roommie is going to hate that I posted this shot of her at one of our favorite coffee shops but maybe she wont see it. I think it captures her wonderfully..quirky with her pistachio flavored anything, playful and beautiful!!

Wedding planning has brought on crafting projects which makes me miss my fiance (not only bc I need his cutting and pasting skills). I will be visiting home soon to finalize some details and see him along with my fuzz pups #countingdownthedays.

Snow storm Nemo (who names a snow storm after a fish?!) brought a beautiful white blanket over the city which has now turned into yucky black slippery mush. I don’t mind it too much. I would much rather this cold weather than the humidity that the hot summer months bring. Coffee and vegan baking has kept me cozy indoors.

Oh, and who can forget the frenzy of Fashion Week! I attended a blogger conference last week which was pretty interesting. Meeting new ppl in the industry brought on new adventures when party crashing came into the agenda (which is always thrilling!).

Anywho.. I am leaving for work once again wearing a sweater I have worn tons of times this season #southerngirlinanorthernstateduringwintermonthsproblems. No complaining here…#stayawayhumidity!

Dreaming of hearts,

Daily Bits: It’s my birthday

November 9th, 2012

This post was written yesterday but with all of the birthday celebrations I forgot to post it. So here it is.

Hey hey hey! Today is my birthday! Ahh.

An early present came yesterday from Mother Nature who decided to bless my birthday week with a storm of snow. I was grinning the whole 1.5 hour commute home walking through puddles of slush with frozen wet toes. By nightfall the slushy puddles were replaced with a blanket of snow! Absolutely gorgeous!

The photos are a tribute to the final days of fall-like weather. I think we may have crossed into winter unofficially.

When visiting back home, Bri and I attempted to visit this Autumn village several times unsuccessfully. So after a long drive we decided to check the place out even though the corn maze was more of a mud puddle, the pigs were not racing, and no one was zip lining or barn swinging. We were in a goofy mood so this is what came of it…

Rumor had it that the corn maze was in the shape of both presidential candidates heads. We checked out the tire horse swings, pretended to zip line, buy hotdogs and pet the pigs…thinking it was hilarious at the time.

Thinking of warmer temps but enjoying these freezing ones for now.

Dreaming of snow boots and cozy jacket in my gift packages,

Twila

Daily Bits: NYC Tourist

October 30th, 2012

These photos are long over due. And since I am (thankfully) cooped up safely with working electricity and internet during this Sandy Frankenstorm I thought it would a good time to share these guys. In my point in Greenpoint we were only hit with hard winds and sprinkles of rain leaving us cozied up wishing well wishes and a fast recovery to the rest of Manhattan. Here’s to more gorgeous days in the Big Apple and family visits…

I was super excited for my family to finally visit not only to see them but also so I could finally act as a tourist in this huge city. Ever since moving in March I have been envying tourists as they ride by with wind blown hair on those double decker buses. Not only envying them bc of their sitting positions while I am running all over NY to get ends and outs in the Garment District but also bc they get to see one of the greatest cities from an elevated view while hearing amazing little facts. UGH! Love it! None of my friends (being the cool people that they are) wanted to be an acting tourist (and I was not going to be the super uncool person going on these rides alone) so I had to wait for actual tourists to come so I could join their posse.

We did it up big big. Got the huge package of all the bus tours, tickets to Top of the Rock, Empire State Building, ferry rides around Manhattan and up to Ellis Island to see the Statue of Liberty. We had to see a Broadway show (which my father was not the biggest fan of) and take a pedicab tour of Central Park (which my father was the biggest fan of). It was one great time! I will do it again if anyone wants to join me when you come for a visit. I may even wear tennis shoes, visor and a fanny pack…all decked out.

Dreaming of more visitors,

Twila

September 24th, 2012

New York Fashion Week was crazy business. I had to take a week to recuperate from the crazy running all over finalizing trims, picking up protos and samples, spray painting heels, organizing looks etc etc. It was really cool to see it all come together. Not only was I able to see Rebecca Minkoff’s Runway show but I was also able to view Jcrew’s Presentation which was bursting with prints, bright colors and big earrings (one of my old favorites I am happy to bring back!).

The front of the Lincoln Center where Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week took place was a little different than expected. There were ladies dressed in crazy frocks to entice photographers to snap away at them. There were bloggers posing for their next outfit post. There were celebs. But it wasn’t as busy as I would have thought. It was a bit spread out with photogs looking lost just snapping away at anyone who walked by. The whole scene was much smaller yet more vast than I would have imagined (if that makes sense). Still super exciting just different than expected..ya know ya know.

Oh, I also caught a glimpse of  the one and only Anna Wintour passing through the back stages unsmiled while photogs clicked away and I fumbled to attempt to do the same. For those of you who don’t know who she is, she is the real Miranda Priestly (played by Meryl Streep) in the film Devil Wears Prada, which was actually based on a book written by her formal personal assistant.

Ugh how much do you want all these Jcrew pieces?!

Hope your day is lovely! I am up a bit early working on a graphic for a fabric. Wish me luck!

Dreaming of a fulfilling and learned day,

Twila

PS. Happy Fall! (my favorite time of year!)
