JCrew Interpretation

September 13th, 2010

Once again this post is late but I have a very good reason for it…today is Brian’s 25th Bday and I had to deliver his present. Today also starts his birthday week in which he gets a gift for every day starting with each letter in his name.Today was B so he received “breakfast in bed” and Voodoo Tickets representing “bands.” I can’t wait till the end of October!!! There are so many bands at that festival that I am excited to see!

As you know, I am in love with JCrew and with fall…and I am especially in love with the Jcrew 2010 Fall line. So I decided to give my interpretation of this look even though the weather is far from crisp and cool here in Louisiana. Sometimes the look out ways the heat. I have been on the hunt for a vintage light denim top but have had no luck, so I borrowed this top from Amber a few days ago and have been wearing it ever since.

Blazer: my grandmother’s vintage blazer
Top: “borrowed” from Amber who found it at Gap for $4
Skirt: Charlotte Russe a few years back
Boots: Twila’s Vintage
Brooches: vintage

Since the heat is seriously unbearable, I went for a more believable look…

Rain, rain don’t go away

August 20th, 2010

Rain, rain don’t go away.
I finally found time to play!

Rain has been my love for a while now. I believe I mentioned it quite a few times on this internet diary. I just love the feeling of comfort and renewing it brings. The smell also is very earthy which I am fond of! And I finally get to wear my new JCrew rain jacket I picked up at an outlet this summer.

I find it always hard to find proper rain gear. I am pretty sure that I have gone through the majority of my life not having a rain coat. And since umbrellas are a pain to find when you need them, I pretty much lived in hats and boot on rainy days. Boots were the only smart option on rainy days at our university unless you wanted to be one of the students freezing in class because of their now soaked jeans and flip flops they chose to put on that day. So all that to say that I am pretty excited about this coat. Oh, and while I was searching for pretty fall fabric to start a few new designs I stumbled across some pretty cool fabric that would look nice as a rain jacket. If I ever find time for another side project, a new rain coat will be made!

Jacket: JCrew Outlet
Jean Dress: New York and Co
Slip Dress: Twila’s Vintage
Rain Boots: my father’s tool trailer, ha
Belt: handmade by me

Since my pretty JCrew raincoat inspired my day, I decided to go with the JCrew look and piled on layers, with a hint of jean and of course a pretty flower belt. The belt is the one I put together for my bros wedding this past Monday. I need to show you those pics soon.

Well, I hope you weekend is splendid! Mine will be full of sewing projects, a Breakfast Hat Club and a bridal shower for my friend who is a wedding planner!!

Dreaming of a fun eventful weekend,

Twila

10 things that make my heart happy

July 19th, 2010

I know once again that it is way way too early to be thinking about fall. I mean we are in the middle of July and I am in one of the hottest (humid hot) US states. I just can’t help wanting cold weather to come early. I find that I have in the past bought more cold weather clothing then I need because of the lack of coldness in the southern US, but I really just can’t stop myself sometimes.

How adorable do these outfits look?! This “10 things that make my heart happy” post is dedicated to the fall/winter items I want to wear now…

1. J-crew multiple layers on top with a short leggy combo on the bottom.

2. Multiple vintage pins and pendants on everything. ( I have always loved this look. I use to wear multiple pins on my jeans in middle school…or maybe high school.)

3. Awesome new khaki coats

4. Lovely vintage boots. (I am kind of regretting that I sold mine. I was just trying to get out of my “only boot wearing” stage so decided to put them in the shop, but now I want them back…boo…ha. I hope you are enjoying them new awesome boot owner!)

5. shorts with tights and socks and boots! So many things to put on in the winter! I love it!

6. Grey comfy sweat shirts

7. Shiny, glitzy pants

8. Tall socks with shorts…seriously have always loved this. In high school, I couldn’t wait to go to college because all I wanted to wear was shorts, tall socks, boots and sweatshirts on cold days. Love it!!! The look below is of course cuter but still.

9. A cheaper version of these Miu Miu sequin embellished knee socks

10. Colorful, vintage ponchos like this Bluebird Vintage find. Too bad its already sold!

Now on to more sewing!

10 things that make my heart happy

June 14th, 2010

The 10 things that are making me happy this week come from a few of my favorite stores! I’m sure these stores are in your list of favorites also… Anthropologie and JCrew. I have a few other items as well marked as favorites.

1. I am seriously dying for this colorfully printed cardigan or something similar. I was almost willing to pay the high price but I restrained myself. Maybe I can find a silk vintage kimono similar.

2. This adorable embroidered cardi is on my list as well.
